Widget Station

I just looked at the T3 Magazine [t3.co.uk] web site and found something that is really interesting in their review of announcements being made at the CES in Las Vegas.
The item is called the WidgetStation and is meant to replace a desk clock. The WidgetStation will have the ability to connect via the internet to a ’service’ provider that will make available weather forecasts and other information. This will then be displayed on the right hand side of the screen with the time etc. shown on the left.
I first got into widgets through Konfabulator [now part of Yahoo!] who introduced a widget program to the Mac and then the Windows platform. Later Apple introduced them under OS X.
Some time ago I wrote an email to Steve Jobs at Apple asking him if he could make the iPod capable of displaying the Apple widgets that are available under OS X Tiger [Dashboard]. Perhaps a future Apple device will be capable.
I have always liked the idea of waking up to a device that shows me the weather, news headlines, and my daily appointments [Sci-Fi becomes science fact?] and I think the WidgetStation could fit the bill.
More details can be found at the web site http://www.emtrace.com/widgetstation/default.htm.

I take it you never received a reply from Steve Jobs then??
I once saw a toaster that used this technology to burn either a sun or a rain cloud onto your toast so you knew what the weather would be like outside, personally I prefer to eat evently toasted toast while looking out of the window
No, I didn’t get a reply.
Although I did many years ago when I wrote about the Cube.
If you come across the toaster let me know.
