Mac .v. PC

Why is using a PC so much more frustrating than a Mac?
I must admit I feel that I am a little biased because I use a Mac as my personal home machine and I have done so since 1987 when I got my first 512k Mac.
However my preference is not because I am a blind fanboy; it stems from using both operating systems extensively. Both at work and at home.
At work I use Windows XP and at home I use Mac OS X [Tiger].
Control
When I sit at my Mac and use it - it acts consistently - it doesn’t just start a process or background task that slows the computer down to a halt. I really get the feeling that I control it and not the other way around.
I also like the fact that with the Mac the menu bar is always in the same place regardless of the window location.
Clutter
I tend to use that same tools with both OS’s - Internet, mail, web design, and graphic programs - and I am horrified at how cluttered the Windows environment is. Two examples are;
- As I said, under Windows when I have a few windows open I have multiple menu bars; with the Mac it’s just one.
- Under Windows we have the task bar, quick launch, and system tray. Open a few applications / documents and this area [normally at the bottom of the screen] is a confusing mix of abbreviated text, small icons, and area dividers. With the Mac I have a simple dock with images. A description of the images is available when I move the mouse over them.
Stability
My Mac does not crash period, whereas my PC does so on many occasions. Is this because Windows is more deeply rooted in it’s wicked past than the Mac OS?
Elegance
Without question the Macintosh ‘package’ is by far the most elegant computer available. From the hardware design to the operating system I get a cohesive ‘together’ experience [I admit that improvements could be made because not all interface elements are consistent]. With windows I get something ‘cobbled together’ [that's how I feel], useable but ugly, and inconsistent. Hardware from one source and the OS from another.

I’m with you. I use PCs and Macs interchangeably at work, and although I have some frustrations with Macs, by far I prefer them over Windows. I’ve come to believe that in most cases — not true techies, but the average user — Windows is no different than AOL: the option people use when they don’t know better.
